RAD Joins Symmetricom SyncWorld Ecosystem for Mobile Backhaul Synchronization Over Packet Microwave Networks

RAD embraces program that guarantees service provider customers that timing and synchronization solutions are tested and proven.

Mahwah, NJ, May 21, 2011 --(PR.com)-- RAD Data Communications has joined the Symmetricom SyncWorld Ecosystem Program, which was formed to provide tested solutions for mobile backhaul synchronization over packet microwave networks.

Since Packet Switched Networks (PSNs) do not include inherent synchronization mechanisms, they require complementary clock transfer solutions. This is particularly relevant to mobile backhaul and Triple Play services, which require exact synchronization.

In response to that challenge, Symmetricom developed a portfolio of Grandmaster Clock solutions. The Grandmaster clock supports IEEE 1588-2008, or Precision Time Protocol (PTP) Version 2, ensuring the highest possible level of synchronization over a PSN. Deployed at mobile base stations, RAD's Mobile Demarcation Devices (MDDs), which support 1588-2008 as well as Synchronous Ethernet, lock onto the Grandmaster Clock, functioning as “slaves” to synchronize all elements within the system.

“RAD is enthusiastic about joining Symmetricom’s SyncWorld Ecosystem Program,” said Ronen Guri, Business Development and Solution Manager for Application Awareness, Wholesale and Mobile Backhaul Services at RAD Data Communications. “Mobile operators will now be able to seamlessly deploy the best timing over packet solutions the industry has to offer, the RAD ETX-A series of MDDs, which provide slave clock, boundary clock, and transparent clock capabilities, and Symmetricom’s IEEE 1588-2008 TimeProvider 5000 Grandmaster clock.”

To become part of Symmetricom’s Ecosystem Program, RAD conducted extensive performance and interoperability tests to verify the performance of 1588-2008 timing over microwave backhaul network configurations leveraging real-world deployment scenarios. RAD is an industry leader in the development, standardization and implementation of timing-over-packet solutions, and was the first vendor to demonstrate the original IEEE 1588-2008 standard in an incumbent carrier’s live network.

“We are pleased to work with a vendor such as RAD that is promoting the market adoption of IEEE 1588-2008,” said Manish Gupta, Vice President marketing at Symmetricom. “Interoperability among vendors is essential to ensure seamless deployment of precise timing and synchronization in next generation networks.”

Symmetricom’s SyncWorld Ecosystem Program was unveiled to support precise timing and synchronization requirements for 4G/LTE deployments for ensuring a seamless integration for service provider networks. The SyncWorld Ecosystem Program features all elements of the mobile value chain encompassing embedded to network equipment manufacturers.
