U.S. Dream Academy to Honor Surgeon General Dr. Regina M. Benjamin, Robert Townsend and More at the 10th Annual Power of a Dream Gala on May 25th
Grammy Award Winning Icon Patti Labelle to Perform. “Power of A Dream” Gala to be Held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, DC.
Washington, DC, May 21, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The U.S. Dream Academy is celebrating its' 10th “Power of a Dream” Gala on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in Washington, DC to benefit their nationally recognized after-school programs for children at risk. The event will be held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel located at 1330 Maryland Avenue, SW, Washington, DC 20024. Each year the Power of a Dream Gala attracts the support of Hollywood celebrities, political figures, corporate executives, community leaders, and VIPs to invest and raise awareness to further help U.S. Dream Academy programs succeed in making a difference in the lives of at-risk youth and children of incarcerated parents.
Honorees for this year’s event, who are also making a difference in young people’s lives with their philanthropic efforts include: Vice Admiral Regina M. Benjamin, MD, MBA, the 18th Surgeon General of the United States Public Health Service. As America’s Doctor, she provides the public with the best scientific information available on how to improve their health and the health of the nation. Sheila C. Johnson, a successful entrepreneur and impassioned philanthropist and Vice Chairman of Monumental Sports & Entertainment and Founding partner of BET (Black Entertainment Television); Robert Townsend, award winning actor, director, producer and visionary (The Discarded Boys, The Five Heartbeats, Parenthood, Natalie Cole Story, The Robert Townsend Foundation) and Delbert W. Baker (founding Board Member of the US Dream Academy, Seventh-day Adventist minister, author, educator, and administrator and a Vice President of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists).
