Addison Homes Wins National Green Building Award
Addison Homes, based in Upstate South Carolina, has earned national recognition for its consistent commitment to sustainable building practices.
Greenville, SC, May 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Addison Homes has earned national recognition for its consistent commitment to sustainable building practices.
The Greenville-based homebuilder was named Green Building Advocate of the Year (builder category) by the National Association of Home Builders. This award—one of only 13 presented to building industry professionals across the country—recognizes Addison Homes for its initiatives in bringing green building practices into the mainstream.
Along with a commitment to build 100% of their homes to rigorous Energy Star® and EarthCraft House™ standards, owners Todd and Michelle Usher present a variety of sustainability-related educational programs throughout the community, ranging from consumer seminars on energy-efficient homes to children’s workshops featuring conservation projects. The couple’s volunteer outreach includes supporting high-performance standards for the local Habitat for Humanity.
“Building to environmentally-friendly standards is about more than just saying you’re ‘green,’” says Todd Usher, president of Addison Homes. “This is a way to provide healthier, more comfortable and more durable homes with the added perk of reduced utility and maintenance bills. We are committed to increasing awareness about the very practical benefits of sustainable building techniques.”
NAHB announced the Advocate of the Year and other awards during the 13th annual National Green Building Conference earlier this month in Salt Lake City, Utah.
“These awards recognize and celebrate the most forward-thinking builders and remodelers in green building,” said Bob Jones, immediate past chairman of NAHB. “These award winners are pushing the envelope of what we can achieve with energy and resource efficiency.”
