Mouser Electronics Debuts Dramatic Office and Warehouse Facilities
Bob Moore Construction was the general contractor for the expansion of Mouser Electronics Headquarters. The expansion increases Mouser’s headquarters facility from 173,000 to 432,000 SF. The project included 78,500 SF for office, call center, and data center space. A 3,000 SF two-story rotunda provides a dramatic main entrance. The expansion project also included a new 180,000 SF warehouse.
Arlington, TX, March 16, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Mouser Electronics is the fastest growing distributor in the electronics industry. A sign of the company's aggressive focus on customer service, Mouser is the only catalog distributor of electronic components to publish a new 1,800+ page print catalog every 90 days. The company's online store now offers more than 755,000 products as well.
Because of Mouser's fast growth and expanding product selection, the company needed to more than double the size of its existing facility - fast. “We desperately needed space,” said Glenn Smith, President and CEO of Mouser Electronics. “We needed to expand both our office and warehouse space and speed was critical.”
Bob Moore Construction was the general contractor and FRS Design Group was the architect for this elaborate expansion. With the project now complete, Mouser Electronics is the second largest building in Mansfield. (The largest, the 455,000 Pier 1 Imports Distribution Center, was also built by Bob Moore Construction.) With 570 employees currently on staff, Mouser is the largest private employer in this Fort Worth, Texas suburb.
The expansion increases Mouser’s headquarters facility from 173,000 to 432,000 SF. The project included 78,500 SF for office, call center, and data center space. It features two floors in a new building that shares a wall with the old office space. The new 3,400 SF data center features a pre-action fire suppression system, connections to multiple power sources, and a dedicated fiber communications ring to ensure uninterrupted Internet operations – a core component of Mouser's global sales operations.
A 3,000 SF two-story rotunda provides a dramatic main entrance to the building. The rotunda is a totally radiused, curtain-wall structure with a louvered sunshade system that rings the rotunda 13’ above the terrazzo stone floor. Two radiused monument staircases surround the reception area. The exterior is topped with Alucabond pre-finished metal panels containing structural steel outrigger supports. To provide the modern look Mouser wanted, much of the rotunda’s steel was left exposed including the girders, columns, stairs, and stair stringers.
The expansion project also included a new 180,000 SF warehouse, more than doubling the company’s existing warehouse space. The new automated, wireless warehouse supports Mouser’s paperless sales and order fulfillment systems. The interior is completely finished with impact resistant sheetrock, painted ceilings, and climate controlled. A mezzanine area provides additional space for administrative functions. Beneath the mezzanine is a large static-dissipative area for storage of products that require greater protection against static discharge.
“Everybody is amazed by the building,” said Smith. “Our customers and suppliers have been very impressed with the quality. This is especially impressive considering that the project was done so closely to our existing facility. Our global operations are run through this building and it was essential that our employees were not impacted by construction noise, dust or interruption to our power systems. Bob Moore Construction made this a real priority, and was extremely sensitive to not interrupting our work. They worked a lot of nights and weekends, working around our schedule so we didn’t have to work around theirs.”
“This is certainly a showcase project for us,” said Curt Hellen, Senior Project Manager for Bob Moore Construction. “The rotunda, the seamless integration of the new and old office spaces, the automated warehouse structure, all turned out beautifully. Our superintendent, Jerry Clem, had a lot to do with how well the project went. Our safety director, Dino Sideris, was also involved to make sure that our subcontractors and Mouser’s employees were not exposed to dangers during construction. Much of the credit goes to Glenn Smith and Mouser as well; they worked very closely with us throughout the project and with that involvement we were able to create a truly remarkable facility.”
“Bob Moore Construction was very easy to work with,” said Smith, “and I was very impressed with how safety was maintained on the jobsite. Curt did a great job managing the project – from keeping the project on track and maintaining the pace, to coordinating the weekly meetings and all the details. We chose Bob Moore Construction as our general contractor because we felt they could do the project right and complete it in the shortest time possible. We made the right choice.”
