Feral Cats Have Pets for Patriots, Freekibble and HALO to Thank For Their Next Meal
Charity inspires Freekibble to provide 10,000 meals of HALO food to feed Washington, DC feral cats.
New York, NY, June 04, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Pets for Patriots, Freekibble.com and HALO, Purely for Pets® join forces to provide 10,000 meals to feral cats throughout the District of Columbia, with the assistance of the Washington Humane Society.
“The work that Pets for Patriots does connecting service members and military veterans with at-risk pets is so important and we enthusiastically support them. We’re thrilled to help with a donation of Halo food!” says Freekibble’s Kelly Ausland.
An estimated 50 million feral cats are in the United States, including tens of thousands in the District of Columbia. Nationally, these cats produce up to 147 million kittens every year, many of which do not survive into adulthood.
“The Washington Humane Society is one of our valued shelter partners with an excellent feral cat outreach program,” says Beth Zimmerman, founder and executive director of Pets for Patriots. “We’re proud to have inspired our sponsors, Freekibble and HALO, to make this generous donation to such a worthy cause. It's a reflection of the strong partnerships we've forged with both national and local organizations, and that we celebrated recently at our inaugural DC event."
Feral cats are unsocialized and face certain death if brought to a shelter. The Washington Humane Society works with area feral cat organizations to support trap, neuter and release (TNR) programs, a safe and humane cat population management strategy.
“We are so delighted to be part of this program,” states Stephanie Shaine, Chief Operating Officer for Washington Humane Society. “Being able to help get food to these caregivers is a wonderful way to help animals in need.”
