Industry Leader in Embedded Computing Turns to ATS as Thermal Partner for Cavium Application
ATS’s first generation heat sink design for an industry leading embedded computing OEM creates a trusted partner relationship; follow on thermal design work outsourced to ATS freeing up the OEM’s team for other priorities.
Norwood, MA, June 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- An industry leading embedded computing OEM had partnered with Advanced Thermal Solutions, (ATS) to design a thermal solution for their first Cavium Octeon based processing card. The card is PCI-X Bus, and is used as a packet processor in industrial PC platforms deployed in telecommunications applications. ATS’s thermal engineering design resulted in the ATS copper, fansink, heat sink 942.
When the next project was launched, the OEM returned to ATS to contract with them to cost reduce the 942 and to improve the performance in the light of their using the next generation Cavium Octeon Processor. The OEM chose to outsource the entire project to ATS. The ATS team had proved themselves on the earlier project, showing they could deliver a one PCI-X slot, superior design, and be a trusted addition to the OEM’s design team.
The new project led ATS’s engineering team to develop heat sink 1172. The 1172 is a passive heat sink that works with the original design's hole pattern and footprint for a physical drop in replacement without changing the attachment method. The other benefit to the 1172 is it's fan ready design. When a fan-on-sink is required for a particular application, the 1172 will accommodate it. ATS paid careful attention to both the engineering and the business needs of the OEM, resulting in a dual purpose, cost effective design.
ATS’s technical depth, investment in a tier 1 thermal lab, and Norwood, MA campus created an environment of excellence to be the only partner who could deliver on this OEM’s needs. In addition, ATS’s status as a Cavium PACE Partner, insured they had access to the correct thermal data for the design.
