Fayetteville’s Kickin’ Chicken Presents Tornado Relief Check to Pine Forest High School
Local restaurant holds Pine Forest High School Day, donates 20% of sales.
Fayetteville, NC, June 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Kickin’ Chicken restaurant, located at 516 N. McPherson Church Road in Fayetteville, presented a check for $1000 to Jane Fields, principal at Pine Forest High School in Cumberland County, on May 26 in support of local tornado relief efforts.
On Saturday, April 16, severe storms in the area spawned a devastating tornado that ripped a path of destruction several miles long, damaging or destroying over 300 homes and businesses in an area extending from North Reilly Road to north Ramsey Street. Pine Forest High School, which was hosting an N.C. Force Basketball tournament when the tornado hit, received extensive damage to its athletic fields.
The Kickin’ Chicken’s Mission Statement includes a commitment to community, to “…making a difference in our community by charitable giving & active participation.” The restaurant responded to the high school’s plight by deeming May 15, 2011, Pine Forest High School Day at The Kickin’ Chicken, supporting their efforts with ads in the Fayetteville Observer Weekender, on radio and on Facebook to prompt people to come out and participate. Additionally, Fields distributed a flyer and mentioned the event in weekly calls home to parents of children attending the school.
"We heard about all of the damage to the athletic department and how prom had to be postponed, and it just broke our hearts,” said Patti Travasos, Marketing Director of The Kickin’ Chicken and organizer of Pine Forest High School Day. “We are members of this community, and that means we help others in our community when in need.”
On May 26, representatives of The Kickin’ Chicken arrived at the school and presented a check to Fields for $1000, 20% of its sales on Pine Forest High School Day, to help assist with the heavy burden of repairs.
“I am extremely grateful for the generosity and support that our school has received from businesses such as The Kickin' Chicken,” said Fields. “Our school and community truly appreciate the monetary donation as well as the genuine concern that they displayed for our students.”
Travasos underscored The Kickin’ Chicken’s commitment to community.
“We were happy to help and look forward to working with them again to help rebuild what was lost."
