Mercy Corps Marks $1 Million in Donations From The GreaterGood Network

In June, the global humanitarian agency Mercy Corps and its partner The GreaterGood Network mark a milestone: $1 million given to fight global poverty and hunger over the past twelve years.

Seattle, WA, June 08, 2011 --(PR.com)-- This month, the global humanitarian agency Mercy Corps and its partner The GreaterGood Network mark a milestone: $1 million given to fight global poverty and hunger over the past twelve years. The GreaterGood Network is a collection of websites that enables people to support charities and causes they care about, at no cost to them. Mercy Corps was one of the first beneficiaries of The Hunger Site, the flagship website of the GreaterGood Network, launched in June 1999.

"We applaud the GreaterGood Network for their work, and congratulate them on twelve successful years of innovative fundraising and awareness-raising on issues of vital importance," said Mercy Corps CEO Neal Keny-Guyer. "This partnership shows that each person, making even a small donation or taking a quick action, can have a huge impact on the lives of others."

The GreaterGood Network has enabled Mercy Corps, a fellow Northwest U.S.-based organization, to feed hungry people around the world and respond to disasters such as the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, the 2009 tsunami in Indonesia, and most recently, the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

"Mercy Corps excels at disaster response," said GreaterGood Network Chief Operating Officer Lisa Halstead. "Not only are they adept at providing food and supplies where they’re needed in a hurry, they also cultivate long-term solutions to hunger by helping farmers set up sustainable food sources for their families and communities."

Mercy Corps has benefited from three different funding sources through The GreaterGood Network. The first is The Hunger Site’s "Click to Give" campaign, where as a "Click Partner," Mercy Corps receives a donation each time a visitor clicks the button at the top of the website's homepage. The second source of funding is The Hunger Site store, where a percentage of the retail price for each item purchased is set aside for charity. And finally, the "Gifts that Give More" option highlights specific programs, including regional disaster relief efforts, which donors can support through tax-deductible monetary contributions.

"We look forward to many more years of effective partnership with The GreaterGood Network," said Keny-Guyer.
