Exotic Figures Displayed in Ketty Ferrandon's Series at Agora Gallery

Ketty Ferrandon is a contemporary artist who believes that her paintings are simply a rendering of her internal life and impressions, rich with bright colors and dancing shapes. Her current work has emerged from a long process, influenced by her ethnic origins – in a sense she returns to her African roots – and her education in the arts.

New York, NY, June 10, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature Martinique-born artist, Ketty Ferrandon, in The French Perspective: Contemporary Art from France. The exhibition is scheduled to run from June 30, 2011 through July 21, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, July 07, 2011).

About the Artist
Ketty Ferrandon’s polychromatic canvases create encounters between order and wilderness, between exoticism and origins. The Martinique-born, Normandy-based painter draws inspiration from Primitives like Gauguin and Rousseau, her experiences of cross-cultural passage and Afro-Caribbean roots, and the animal imagery of her imagination. Her spectacular acrylic compositions bear testament to their multiple sources: like a shattered mirror, they catch vivid light and shade, reflecting a dazzling vision of the world. In each quasi-mosaic painting, a wild creature lurks in the fiery foliage of evenly applied acrylics.

Ferrandon’s exotic figures melt into their Fauvist-hued surroundings, suggesting an essential affinity between subject and setting. By making the two nearly indistinguishable she questions notions of place-ness and identity, connections between people, and where they are and where they have been. Each puzzle-like assemblage of rounded, warm swaths of colors finds a stylized animal surrounded by ripe, lush flora. Both natural in form and meticulously constructed, with a gentle brush and precise hand, Ferrandon’s fierce wilderness unleashes a captive audience’s imagination.
