"Hello New York City" -- 2011 CCIP Kickoff BBQ
New York, NY, June 10, 2011 --(PR.com)-- FUSIA Communications hosted a Kickoff BBQ reception at the Flushing YMCA on June 3, to celebrate the launch of the 2011 Cross Cultural Internship Program (CCIP). Entitled "Saying Hello to New York City," the purpose of the event was to introduce the CCIP participants, the next global generation, to the New York City community.
This is the first time that the Kickoff BBQ Session has been organized since the establishment of CCIP in 2008. In addition to the interns and CCIP staff, representatives from the host companies where the students are interning at, the CUHK Alumni Association of Greater New York (CUHKAAGNY), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Alumni Association were also present at the event.
The session provided a good forum where students had the opportunity to interact with members of the community. This enabled both parties to learn more about each others' cultures while sharing their personal experiences. Moreover, students had the rare chance to interact with executives from other host companies and this helped them have a better understanding of other industries in general as well.
"The BBQ session was really enjoyable! Not only was there a great variety of food, we also had the chance to interact with our CCIP peers. It was awesome as we haven't had a good opportunity to know each other yet prior to this event. Moreover, I was also able to speak with my school's alumni at the session and it was interesting to hear them speak about their New York experience so far," said Candice Huo Yue, a student from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
"During the event, I was one of the students helping to BBQ the food and I must admit that it was tough catering to so many people with just 2 pits. On the brighter side of things though, I had the chance to interact with the other interns and it was an eye-opener as I was able to gain a better understanding of the other cultures," said Eugene Oo Zhen Kwan, a student from The National University of Singapore.
"It was a pleasure meeting the students at the session. They provided great company as they were engaging and very enthusiastic to find out more about living and working in New York. The thing that delighted me the most was that several students talked to me to find out more about "Xiao Bian Dan." It was really heartwarming to see these young adults showing so much compassion and willingness to help the less fortunate," said Mr. Raymond Yeung, an Executive Committee Member of CUHKAAGNY.
"Xiao Bian Dan," or Little Bamboo, is a non-profit dedicated to address educational needs for poverty-stricken areas in China. Having been active in New York for the past few years, the fund aims to collect more donations. All donations made to "Xiao Bian Dan" were then given in entirety to the beneficiaries.
