Dr. Frank Fisher of Stevens Selected for Fulbright Specialist Roster
Dr. Frank Fisher at Stevens Institute of Technology has recently been added to the Fulbright Specialist Roster for his expertise in engineering education.
Hoboken, NJ, June 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Frank Fisher, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology, has recently been added to the Fulbright Specialist Roster as a candidate for grants to cooperate internationally on academic development. Funded by the US Department of State, the Fulbright Specialist Program places leaders from higher education and industry in global collaborations that strengthen the positions of US institutions.
"Dr. Fisher was selected for this distinguished honor in recognition of his academic leadership as well as his forward-thinking nanotechnology research," says Dr. Constantin Chassapis, Deputy Dean of the Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. School of Engineering and Science and Department Director of Mechanical Engineering. "His promising explorations in energy harvesting and high-performance polymers are equaled by his engagement in educational and outreach programs at Stevens that instill a love of engineering in K-12 students."
On the Fulbright Roster, Dr. Fisher will be listed as an expert in the area of Engineering Education: Theory, Curriculum and/or Pedagogy. He has developed these skills at Stevens as Co-Director of the Nanotechnology Graduate Program and through programs that convey the excitement of STEM education to grade school students in New Jersey. This is the latest of Dr. Fisher's many honors, which include the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and the Outstanding New Educator Award from the American Society of Engineering Education. Recently, he was recently named one of "the Nation's Top Mechanical Engineers" by Inventor's Digest.
The Fulbright Specialist Program is conducted by the Department of State Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs to promote international cooperation in supporting the needs of institutions of higher education. Specialists are consulted when needs arise in the areas of teacher training, short-term seminars and lecturing, special conferences, curriculum planning, and academic development. Roster candidates may travel abroad to collaborate with their international counterpoints, supported by Department of State funding, enabling a wider range of scholars to benefit from the Fulbright vision.
