Northside Music and Arts Festival Put on by the Minnesota Sinfonia

Minneapolis, MN, June 30, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Minnesota Sinfonia proudly presents the Northside Music and Arts Festival to be held at North Commons Park in North Minneapolis. Always committed to bringing the arts to under served communities free of charge, the Sinfonia has now expanded its outreach on the North Side to include an entire evening of family-friendly activities. Over fifty neighborhood children will join the Sinfonia to dance and narrate a performance of Peter and the Wolf. Other activities will include performances by vocalists from the Sounds of Blackness, the Unlimited Next Drill and Dance Performing Arts and displays of works by local artists. The festival also will feature children’s activities from the Walker Art Center as well as treats for families and children donated from local establishments. The festival is sponsored by the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Legacy amendment, the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation department, the Pohlad Family Foundation and Wells Fargo.

Local Northside artists, teachers and the Lundstrum Center for the Performing Arts have been hired to work with the children, to help make this a great, fun and educational experience.

“The confidence seen in at-risk children after having an experience and opportunity like this is life changing.” -Jay Fishman, executive and artistic director, Minnesota Sinfonia.

The festival will be held starting at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, July 28 at North Commons Park, 1801 James Avenue North, Minneapolis, 55411. In case of rain, the festival will take place at North High School’s auditorium, 1500 James Ave. N, Minneapolis, 55411. Admission is free and children are welcome to attend. Audience members should arrive early—all concerts are first-come, first-seated.
