Winston School Student Wins Cover Art Contest

Short Hills, NJ, June 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Zoe McGhee, an eighth grade student at The Winston School in Short Hills, New Jersey, was awarded a $100 savings bond for her artwork published on the cover of this year’s Summer/Fall Kids’ Guide. Students were asked to design a line of clothing about school spirit for their 8th grade fashion project. Inspired by her love of art, Zoe created a design which celebrates the creativity of students at her school. She illustrated the artwork by hand first, then digitally colored it in Photoshop. In addition to winning the cover contest, Zoe’s design was a top seller on school t-shirts. Zoe aspires to one day work in the fashion world.

The Kids’ Guide, published twice a year for the summer/fall and winter/spring seasons, is a free 208-page guidebook to family activities and events in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. In its seventeenth year of publication, the Kids’ Guide is easily recognized by its distinctive cover which always features original art by local students under 18 years old. Parents can pick one up free at libraries, recreation facilities, preschools, offices and retail locations in Essex, Morris, Union and Somerset Counties, at tourist info centers throughout the state, or visit kidsguide.com. The Kids’ Guide highlights specific museum exhibitions as well as dates for special events, workshops and performances specifically geared to children, teens and families. Categories include museums, theatre, music and dance, historic sites, outdoor recreation, zoos, and the popular Arts in the Parks for the summer edition. The Kids’ Guide also includes listings of area schools, a guide to health, special needs and child care services, enrichment classes, camps, sports and recreation activities.
