Distinctive Remodelers Creates High-Tech Bath in Mokena Home

Stacy and her husband dreamed of a bigger, better bathroom with ample amenities, including a separate shower and Whirlpool tub and a double-bowl vanity. Their hunt for the right remodeler led them to Orland Park-based Distinctive Remodelers.

Mokena, IL, June 13, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Over the years, Gregg and Stacy Prskalo have added a number of items to their home improvement wish list, not the least of which is an extra bedroom. But while their original goal was to enhance their 11-year-old, two-story, three-bedroom residence in Mokena for a quicker resale in the hopes of moving to a larger home to accommodate their growing family, the real estate downturn and tighter finances made them reconsider that ambition.

So instead of opting for a room addition, the couple decided to devote their attention to one of their home’s most pressing flaws: a cramped master bathroom, the update of which would also probably reap a greater return on their remodeling dollar if they decided to put their home on the market in the coming years.

Stacy and her husband dreamed of a bigger, better bathroom with ample amenities, including a separate shower and Whirlpool tub and a double-bowl vanity, as well as a walk-in closet. Their hunt for the right remodeler, which began last December, led them to Orland Park-based Distinctive Remodelers and owner Bryan Nooner, who was referred to the Prskalos by friends and relatives.

After carefully interviewing the couple about their needs and lifestyle preferences, analyzing the family’s existing floorplan and taking measurements, Bryan proposed a creative solution that hadn’t occurred to the Prskalos. He suggested expand the bathroom beyond its current boundaries and build across the adjacent two-story hallway ceiling, which would provide plenty of room for a walk-in closet within the bathroom. Additionally, he advised taking advantage of hidden wasted space behind the shower wall in order to capitalize on some substantial unused square footage. The ambitious plan would nearly triple the bathroom’s size, from approximately 50 to 144 square feet.

But perhaps Bryan’s most appreciated idea was his recommendation to install an all-in-one luxury modular unit, containing a Whirlpool tub and sophisticated shower system, enclosed in elegant curved sliding glass doors. The system’s perks included a multi-jet tub with a bubbler system and water heating feature; a water-powered hydro jet foot massager; a handheld shower massage; a regular and rain showerhead; multiple body sprays, with alternating power settings, built into the shower walls; a TV and stereo system incorporated into the shower; and a self-cleaning ozonator that automatically filters the air and kills any bacteria, fungus, mold and mildew.

“This would transform an otherwise traditional new bath into a high-tech, ultra-comfort zone,” said Bryan. “It’s the kind of room you might never want to leave, it’s so pampering and relaxing.”

Thrilled with his proposal, Gregg and Stacy gave Distinctive Remodelers the green light. In addition to the aforementioned, Distinctive’s crew created a custom double-sink oak vanity, installed ceramic floor tile sporting a decorative linen fabric pattern, added numerous can lights in the ceiling, moved a window from one side of the room to the other to increase natural light, implemented a linen closet, and carved an attractive arched niche in the wall—complemented with a granite shelf—as a focal point.

The Prskalos were so thrilled with their finished master bath that they enlisted the Distinctive Remodelers crew to handle a few odds and ends projects around the home, including hanging a new ceiling fan downstairs, replacing the dated kitchen lighting with new can lights and painting the kitchen ceiling and repairing a few electrical glitches.

“They did an absolutely fantastic job throughout our home. We definitely would like to have them back at some point to remodel our kitchen and add an extra bedroom, but right now we’re pretty occupied enjoying our new daughter,” said Gregg.

As for the new deluxe master bath, “our two boys love the bells and whistles in our shower so much that we can’t get them to use their own bathroom anymore,” joked Stacy of her sons Eric, 14, and Tyler, 12.
