Alaskan Magic, a Contemporary Romance Novel from the Imagination of Carol McPhee

A middle-age control freak’s role in life lies in tatters when she’s abandoned by her husband. Can an overweight grizzled bush pilot suffering losses of his own prove her worth lies in the magic of his arms?

Halifax, Canada, March 19, 2007 --(PR.com)-- In Carol McPhee's latest novel, Alaskan Magic, fifty-something socialite Amanda Bennington finds herself at an unbelievable fork in the road. Freshly divorced and bitter as hell, she can now add homeless to her life’s description.

Her father suggests that her upper class friends are not apt to appreciate a church-poor mouse in their midst. He advises her to leave Seattle and go somewhere peaceful to contemplate her options. To that end, he arranges a visit to her aunt’s resort in Alaska.

The plane trip to Juneau introduces more hostility into Amanda’s life when an arrogant, alcohol-sodden passenger interferes with her peace of mind. After tidying herself from his expulsion of undigested food on her pricey clothes, she learns that this uncouth man is the pilot her aunt hired to fly her to the retreat.

Jenny’s Lodge And Wildlife Rescue Center is not the ritzy haven her father had boasted. However, Amanda is determined to meet any obstacles with fortitude and strength if only to spite the bush pilot’s low opinion of her. She never dreamed her intention would not only involve adapting to the peculiarities of unconventional people, but also have her tussling with some of Alaska’s wildest creatures.

A cantankerous raven, bent on making Amanda’s life another kind of hell, is only one of several aggressors she must endure, not the least of which is her ex-husband who believes his charm and generosity will win her back.

Used to smoothly polished airline executives and upper management types, Layne Brewster, with his crude ways and general dishevelment, is unlike any man Amanda has had in her life. He brings out the worst and the best of her, but can she face the rigors of his mystic frontier world, or will she flee back to the rational high-class lifestyle she has always known?

The complications of dealing with a scruffy bush pilot, who resents Miss Hoity-Toity's intrusion, a vengeful raven, and an environment she doesn't understand would send her scurrying back home if it weren't for her compulsion to learn the family secret.
