Foundation Awards $1000 in Prizes for "Life During Deployment" Media Contest
San Francisco, CA, June 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The conclusion of the Grant Humanitarian Foundation’s (GHF) “Life During Deployment Media Contest” was a multi faceted success, the Combat Relief contest not only provided a forum for service members and their families to express and share their creativity, but raised awareness of the realities of overseas deployment.
Combat Relief, a GHF program supporting American veterans, troops, and their families, teamed up with service members and their families worldwide, to provide a creative outlet via photos and videos. The contest, began May 1st, and welcomed media pertaining to all aspects of life during deployment. Hundreds of votes were cast in support of the submissions, and in the final round, the celebrity panel of judges selected the first and second place winners.
Prizes were awarded as follows: $800 cash to the first place winner, Michael Abbatello of Troy, New York and $200 to the second place winner, Victoria Brown of Baltimore, Maryland. All of the 32 honorable mentions are currently showcased on the GHF website.
Abbatello and Brown both have an incredible insight into the realities of military service. Abbatello served a tour in Afghanistan from 04-05 in the Kunar Province and newlywed Brown’s husband has just left for his first deployment.
Delighted by the substantial submissions and popularity of the contestants, as determined by a feverish popular voting, the Combat Relief team is proud it was able to provide a forum for such creativity and camaraderie. Elena Grant, GHF President, commented: “Each submission is a tribute to the depth of character and spirit of service commonplace in the military community. I’m personally grateful to each and every contest participant, and I encourage anybody and everybody to review the excellent submissions in our online photo and video galleries.”
