Community Foundation Selects Sue Mosey for Mariam C. Noland Award for Nonprofit Leadership
Named after the Foundation’s first and only president, this award recognizes a nonprofit president or CEO in southeast Michigan whose service exemplifies the importance of nonprofit leadership to their organization and the wider nonprofit community.
Detroit, MI, June 17, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan announced that Susan T. Mosey, president of Midtown Detroit, Inc. has been awarded the inaugural Mariam C. Noland Award for Nonprofit Leadership.
Named after the Community Foundation’s first and current president, this newly created award, which will be presented annually, recognizes a nonprofit president or CEO in southeast Michigan whose service exemplifies the importance of nonprofit leadership, not only to their organization, but also to the wider nonprofit community.
Fostering the merger of the University Cultural Center Association (UCCA) with the New Center Council in April 2011 is one among many accomplishments for Mosey. Over her 20 years at UCCA, Mosey has launched dozens of projects that have contributed to the revitalization of Midtown Detroit, including the recent Live Midtown, which is aimed at drawing new residents to the area.
She has served as the catalyst for a comprehensive beautification and maintenance program that includes numerous completed redevelopment projects such as the Inn on Ferry Street, as well as several residential and commercial projects, park developments and streetscapes. In the last 10 years alone, she has aided the planning and development of $25 million in infrastructure projects, $46 million in commercial projects and $400 million in residential projects in Midtown.
“Sue Mosey exemplifies the values of the Mariam C. Noland Nonprofit Leadership Award,” said Community Foundation Chair Allan D. Gilmour. “Her achievements are impressive and the leadership she provides in the region is a model for principled civic leadership.”
As recipient of the Mariam C. Noland Nonprofit Leadership Award, Midtown Detroit, Inc. will receive a grant of $10,000 from the Community Foundation with the preference that the funds be used for Mosey to continue her professional education, take a personal sabbatical for career renewal or engage in philanthropic leadership activities.
The Board of Trustees of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan established the award in 2010 to recognize Mariam C. Noland on her 25th anniversary as president of the Community Foundation. While Noland’s accomplishments to date as president are many and noteworthy of recognition, the Board acknowledged her leadership in the broader philanthropic community and the many other charitable causes and entities that she has supported, nurtured and counseled.
Under Noland’s leadership, the Community Foundation has granted more than $466 million through more than 39,000 grants. Assets have grown to more than $620 million and the Foundation now holds endowments for more than 170 organizations and more than 900 funds from individuals and businesses throughout the country. The organization is now one of the 20 largest community foundations in the country.
