CloverPoint Staff Win 2011 GeoAlberta Award
Victoria, Canada, June 18, 2011 --(PR.com)-- CloverPoint is pleased to announce one of their Spatial Systems Analysts, Laura Colquhoun, has won the 2011 GeoAlberta 2D and 3D Online Cartography Map Gallery Award. This award recognizes technical achievement in 2D and 3D digital presentations. The award took place in Edmonton at the annual GeoAlberta GIS conference.
GeoAlberta is a conference presented by four GIS associations within Alberta:
· The Alberta Chapter of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA)
· The Alberta Chapter of the Geospatial Information Technology Association (GITA)
· The Alberta Geomatics Group (AGG)
· GeoEdmonton
The aim of the conference is to provide training for GIS professionals as well as to demonstrate how the community is using GIS. As part of this conference there is a competition among individuals to showcase their maps and to win prizes.
“One major project that CloverPoint has undertaken is a virtual campus for UBC,” said Colquhoun. “This project really spoke to me as far as current, relevant, and innovative GIS technology went and so I decided to use this as our map submission.”
“Because the map is in a virtual world on our servers, it couldn’t be displayed easily. In the end, I decided on putting together a poster of still-images of the virtual UBC campus as well as an online video. Karl Swannie and Amber Fox created the video and I created the poster which we entered into the From Drafting to Dreaming category,” said Colquhoun.
