New York, NY, July 07, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Looks may be superficial, but they’re here to stay. Beauty is so important its effects are felt in places that have nothing to do with mating or dating. It’s a veritable “Hunger Games”; neither young, nor old is immune from the importance we place on physical beauty.
On June 19, 2011 at 7pm the relationship academy Together Apart put on a panel discussion called “Skin Deep: Beyond Beyonce, Beer Bellies and Good Hair” at the Open Center. Hosted by Jenelle Simone and Together Apart Founder Chris Kazi Rolle it was the fifth installment in “The Live Convo” series.
Many an exercise equipment is still collecting dust in basements, or hidden in plain sight underneath mounds of clothes and other tchotchkes. “Skin Deep” was not just tips to revive old, discarded exercise routines, but delve into why physical attractiveness is so highly rated, and how it effects modern day relationships.
It was a night filled with practical advice from experts in their fields paired with thought provoking discussion (how the media defines beauty for example) punctuated by sage advice from licensed psychotherapist and ordained minister Shawna Marie.
Later on in the evening, the audience got the chance to directly ask the experts including Ursula Stephen, Rihanna’s hair stylist, fashion designer Nefra Dabney, and make-up artist of the Wendy Williams Show, just to name a few.
One sided conversations and mic huggers were strictly prohibited to allow as many people as possible to their two cents. Even so, in the space of a few hours not every audience member could chime in, but it was not uncommon for audience members to act in unison with thoughtful hmmsss and surprised guffaws; confusion followed by understanding with hearty laughter to lighten the tone.
The event like the other “convos” in the series will followed a specific format: one theme, two hosts (male & female), three experts (authors, therapists, celebrities, or married couples) and four rounds of conversation.
Utilizing social media, popular blogger Slim Jackson of SingleBlackMale.org live tweeted the event under the hash tag #togetherapart. For those outside the New York City area or couldn't attend for other reasons Twitter users were urged to use the same hashtag to participate as well.
Past events like “Multiple Choice: Monogamy & Dealing with the Side Piece” have sold out. To purchase tickets for future events please visit http://www.together-apart.com/.
