Celebrate Spring with the Shawangunk Wine Trail
Hudson Valley, NY, March 21, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Think Spring… Think of the The Shawangunk Wine Trail's popular Pasta Primo-Vino. This year the event is being held the weekend of April 21-22. Participants are invited to Celebrate Springtime and the start of the winegrowing season by visiting each of the wineries on the wine trail as they pair their wines with a delectable pasta dish. Again this year the event is a benefit for the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, which will receive a portion of ticket sales.
Indulge your senses with the likes of Pasta with Asparagus, Mushrooms and Parmesan Cream sauce at Warwick Valley Winery, Shrimp, Bean and Pasta salad at Baldwin Vineyards, Pasta Bolognese at Whitecliff Vineyards, Baked Ziti with Ricotta and Sausage at Applewood Winery, Almond Torte Pasta at Adair Vineyards, Orzo Pasta Salad at Rivendell Winery, Pasta e Piselli at Benmarl Winery, Stuffed Shells at Glorie Winery and Asian Pasta at Stoutridge Vineyards. Along with wine and food pairings, a number of wineries will have new releases to taste as well.
Event tickets include tasting fees at all the wineries as well as a pasta sample. The event starts at 10 am each day and runs until 6pm. Tickets for this two day event are $20 per person, and can be purchased in advanced or in person the day of the event at any of the participating ten wineries. The Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, a not-for-profit organization and a member of America’s Second Harvest, distributes food to over 360 member agencies in six counties in the Hudson Valley. The Hudson Valley Food Bank collects large donations of unmarketable but still edible food and distributes it to charitable agencies feeding hungry people. The Hudson Valley Food Bank distributed over 8 million pounds of food last year. It serves member agencies in Orange, Ulster, Putnam, Sullivan, Dutchess and Rockland Counties. Agencies consisting of food pantries, soup kitchens, rehabilitation programs, senior programs, day care centers, emergency shelters, and programs for the disabled.
Organized nearly 20 years ago, The Shawangunk Wine Trail offers the most diversity of any wine trail. It is home to the third largest winery in the New York, the smallest winery in the New York, the nation’s oldest continuously operated winery and America’s oldest vineyard. Wines produced in the region range from dry complex wines, to soft fruity wines, to sparkling and outstanding dessert wines.
The Shawangunk Wine Trail is the closest wine trail to New York City, Westchester, Albany, Bergen County NJ, and Connecticut. It is conveniently located 85 miles north of New York City, 72 miles south of Albany and 40 miles west of Danbury CT. The Shawangunk Wine Trail is easily accessible by the New York State Thruway at Exits 16, 17, and 18, from Route 17 at Exit 119 and I84 West – 9W North & Union Avenue Exit.
