Woodbridge, NJ, June 22, 2011 --(PR.com)-- On Friday, June 10th, SBS Group employees volunteered with the Special Olympics of New Jersey (SONJ) for the opening ceremony of the 2011 Summer Games. SBS Group, a leading technology consulting firm in New Jersey, provides mid-market accounting & business management solutions to companies across the U.S. The Special Olympics Summer Games is a 2-day competition where athletes participate in the areas of aquatics, bocce, gymnastics, powerlifting, softball, tennis and track & field. SBS team members were among 3,000 volunteers and assisted the SONJ team through souvenir sales.
The Special Olympics of New Jersey is a non-profit organization that provides year round sports training and Olympic-type competition in 24 sports for more than 22,000 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It provides continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
The Opening Ceremony of the Summer Games consists of a parade of the 2,500 athletes and their coaches, followed by an address by dignitaries and special guests. During the parade, the Olympic theme played while supporters showed their enthusiasm through doing the wave. The ceremony concluded with members of the law enforcement community carrying the Special Olympics torch into the arena where the cauldron was lit to officially open the Games.
“SBS has always been committed to supporting organizations that work to improve the lives of others. The Special Olympics Summer Games is an incredible event that empowers young people with disabilities. I am proud of the participation of my SBS team in this worthy cause,” says James R. Bowman, President of SBS Group. He continues, “We were so moved by the event that, among a host of other SBS Group community-outreach programs, we plan to expand our participation with the Special Olympics in the near future.”
