Four Women to Summit Mt. Whitney in Hike for Central Valley Charities

Eight night, 75 mile trans-sierra trek aims to raise $100 per mile, or $7,500, for five local charities.

Fresno, CA, June 22, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Backpacking across the Sierras to summit Mt. Whitney (14,505 feet) can be a life changing experience. This summer, four Central Valley women will trek 75 miles across the Sierras to raise money to improve the lives of others in their community.

The four women, ranging from 16 to 51 years of age, will be participating on the first annual “Challenge for Charity Hike,” an event sponsored by founders of the Trans-Sierra Xtreme (TSX) Challenge. 100% of funds raised will be directed to designated Central Valley charities including the Boys and Girls Club of Fresno County, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Fresno and Madera Counties, Hope Now for Youth, the Marjaree Mason Center, and the San Joaquin River Stewardship Program.

“We are excited to support these four women as they trek on our outings to raise $7,500 for local charities,” said Mike Murphy, Co-Founder of the TSX Challenge. “These charities have positively changed the lives of thousands. Now is a great time to come together to support our community.”

The four women include Madisen Kopfman (age 16), a junior at Clovis East High School; Lexie Fabbian (age 21) a Clovis High graduate and current Clovis resident; Susan Noel (age 47), a graduate of Merced High School and current Fresno resident; and Kellie Psaila (age 51) a Hoover High graduate and current Fresno resident. Both Madisen and Lexie have previously completed the week-long trans-sierra backpacking trek. For both Susan and Kellie, this will be their first ever overnight backpacking experience.

The women plan to complete their week-long guided journeys at the end of July and early August, with the goal of reaching their fund-raising milestone by mid-August. To learn more about the charity hike, the charities supported, or to donate, please visit www.tsxchallenge.com/charity.

About the Trans-Sierra Xtreme ChallengeE

The Trans-Sierra Club is a commercial venture that operates the Trans-Sierra Xtreme (TSX) Challenge. The company offers a series of guided 75 mile backpacking treks across Sequoia and Kings Canyon national Park in Central California. The inspirational journey traverses some of the most remote, least traveled regions of the Sierra Nevada before culminating with an ascent on Mt. Whitney, the highest point in the lower 48 states. The TSX Challenge is patterned after annual treks led by Central California educator Mike Murphy since 1983.
