Climate Ride Announces New Partnership with East Bay Bicycle Coalition

San Francisco, CA, June 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Climate Ride announced today a new partnership with the East Bay Bicycle Coalition (EBBC) for Climate Ride California 2011 this October 2-6. The agreement includes joint promotion and the formation of Team East Bay Bicycle Coalition during this year’s event, resulting in a portion of funds raised by team members directly supporting bicycle advocacy projects at EBBC. Registration for Team East Bay Bicycle Coalition and more info can be found at the Team EBBC page: http://tinyurl.com/teamebbc
“We fully support EBBC’s mission of promoting the bicycle as everyday means of transportation and recreation,” said Caeli Quinn, Co-Founder and Director of Climate Ride. “One of Climate Ride’s goals is to showcase the bicycle as one of the most powerful solutions to our energy future. More people on bicycles mean less demand for energy and gasoline. If our Climate Riders can pedal 320 miles in 5 days for sustainability, then many more people can forgo their carbon-based transportation and ride to work.”
This year's event –Climate Ride California 2011 – will raise funds for a collection of 10 hardworking non-profits, including Green America, 350.org, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, Climate Counts, 1% For the Planet, San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, Washington Area Bicyclist Association, and Transportation Alternatives and the Natural Resources Defense Council. Unique to Climate Ride, participants can select where the funds they raise will go, to one, several, or all of the beneficiary organizations. Climate Ride is the first multi-day, multi-city bicycle ride to address sustainability, renewable energy, and climate change issues. Climate Ride also endeavors to show the bicycle is the ultimate carbon-free machine and a viable form of everyday transportation.
“I know many of our members will be interested to hear that we’re forming a team for this year’s Climate Ride California, and that part of what they raise will go directly to the Coalition, said Renee Rivera, Executive Director of East Bay Bicycle Coalition. “Not only can we share our mission of utilizing bikes for daily transportation with the Climate Ride community, but our team members will also be raising funds to help improve the bicycle infrastructure throughout the East Bay. It’s a perfect match.”
The 2nd annual Climate Ride California 2011 will take place October 2-6, 2011, beginning in Fortuna, CA near Eureka, and finishing in San Francisco. Climate Ride will see hundreds of cyclists pedaling more than 320 miles along a portion of the classic Pacific Coast Bike Route. This “green conference on wheels” and fundraiser is designed to raise awareness of sustainability and renewable energy, and has taken place for the past four years from New York City to Washington, DC. Registration is currently open to up to 150 cyclists at www.climateride.org.
Climate Ride is the first bicycle tour where pedal strokes help raise money and awareness of a future powered by renewable energy, sustainability, and a green economy. The ride offers people who share a passion for green living and cycling a chance to journey toward making a difference. Each Climate Rider pays a registration fee of $75 and then raises at least $2400 to participate. About the East Bay Bicycle Coalition
East Bay Bicycle Coalition’s volunteers and affiliated clubs successfully advocated for bicycle access on BART trains soon after the organization were founded in 1972. Bicyclists are also now accommodated on all local and trans-bay buses, ferries, local Amtrak trains, and on shuttles over bridges that do not currently offer direct access. EBBC advocates for direct access on the seven trans-bay bridges that serve the East Bay counties. A great deal of EBBC’s efforts focus on the development of local bicycle transportation plans in the 33 cities where it represents bicyclists' interests. EBBC further promotes the formation of grassroots Bicycle Advisory Committees (BACs) to review plans and prioritize funding. The EBBC also advocates for countywide and regional bicycle planning and funding. For more information, please visit www.ebbc.org.
