Erie Art Museum Now Accepting Works for 84th Annual Spring Show
Works from artists living within 250-mile radius of Erie now being accepted.
Erie, PA, March 21, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Works are currently being accepted for the Erie Art Museum’s 84th Annual Spring Show, a regional juried exhibit, running April 21 through June 24, 2007 in the Erie Art Museum’s Main Gallery.
All artists residing within 250 miles of Erie are invited to enter works not previously exhibited in the Erie area. A total of $10,000 in awards is offered, including $2,000 in juror’s cash awards, the $500 Northwestern Pennsylvania Arts Association Award and at least $7,500 in guaranteed purchases. The cash awards will be divided among the juror’s selections of the best work in the show.
Purchase selections will be made by the firms and individuals offering purchase awards. Each entrant may submit three works. The entry fee is $5 per entry for members of the Erie Art Museum and $10 for non-members.

Saturday, March 24, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday, March 25, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

About the Juror
The Erie Art Museum has chosen Janet Koplos, senior editor at Art in America, as the Juror of Selection and Awards.
“Janet is a renowned writer, art critic and lecturer,” said Erie Art Museum Director John Vanco. “She’s written nearly 2,000 reviews, articles and essays in her career.”
Koplos is the author of Contemporary Japanese Sculpture and co-author of The Unexpected: Artists’ Ceramics of the 20th Century. She received her B.A. in journalism from the University of Minnesota and an M.A. in Art History from Illinois State University.
While Koplos’ experience and expertise covers artists working in a wide range of media including paintings, textiles, ceramics, metals, furniture and glass. She is the recipient of the Art Critic’s Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and is currently on the faculty of Parsons School of Design in New York.
“I am looking forward to my time in Erie as the Spring Show juror because I enjoy being able to judge work based on my own opinions. I also appreciate the Spring Show tradition of rewarding selected artists with monetary awards on the basis of my opinions; I feel that this gives a deeper meaning to my judgments. I regard art as a form of visual communication and makes selections based on the piece’s ability to communicate the artist’s intent to the audience,” said Koplos.
Edinboro University will sponsor a public lecture with Koplos at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania’s R. Benjamin Wiley Arts & Sciences Center, room 117 on April 4, 2007 from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.

The Erie Art Museum anchors downtown Erie’s cultural and economic revitalization, occupying a group of restored mid-19th century commercial buildings, including an outstanding 1839 Greek Revival bank.
