hackNY Announces 2011 Class, Triples the hackNY Fellows Program

New York, NY, June 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- hackNY is proud to announce the class of 2011 hackNY Fellows, a select group of students from across the US and Canada who will spend 10 weeks this summer developing and applying their computational, quantitative, and design expertise while working with some of NYC’s best startup companies.

Thanks to the generous support of members of NYC’s startup community as well as foundations and investors from across the US, hackNY has been able to triple the size of the hackNY Fellows program from last year. Hundreds of students from across the world and hundreds of NYC startups applied to participate in the 2011 program. Admitted Fellows were matched with startups based on compatibility of their technological fortes with the needs of the startups. Startups must also apply and show they can provide a technologically strong mentoring environment, including a concrete technical problem to solve and a technologist mentor to work with the admitted Fellow.

The hackNY.org initiative aims to mentor and federate the next generation of technology innovators for New York City. Co-organized by faculty from NYU and Columbia, and with a board of advisors which includes educators, technologists, and entrepreneurs, hackNY organizes the hackNY Fellows Program in the summer and student "hackathons" each semester, during which students develop their own software applications and new websites building on technologies provided by New York City startups.
