Thermal Matrix Warns of Increased Suicide Bomb Attacks in Wake of Nigeria Attack and Schoolgirl Kidnapping
Washington, DC, June 25, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Terrorist organizations around the world are increasingly embracing suicide bombings as a means of violence, evidenced by the latest attack at the national police headquarters in Nigeria that killed two on June 16. The bombing is believed to be the work of the radical Islamic sect Boko Haram.
The bomb ripped through a car park, destroying nearly three dozen vehicles as people were thrown to the ground. Boko Haram says the attack was aimed at the police chief, but instead killed a traffic warden and the presumed suicide bomber. If confirmed, this will be the first suicide attack in Nigeria.
This latest attack comes following a wave of person-borne suicide attacks by the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan this year, both before and after the killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
“These disturbing reports continue to come in from all around the world,” said Richard Salem, CEO of threat detection maker Thermal Matrix International. “Terrorists show no mercy and have no compassion in returning to these barbaric attacks time and time again. Only when we prove we can detect suicide bombers before they reach their target will this wave of terror end.”
In addition to all the completed suicide attacks comes news of a 9-year-old Pakistani girl who was kidnapped with the intention of being used as a suicide bomber at a military checkpoint. She only managed to escape by jumping out of the car as the terrorists approached their target.
“I was buying toffees from a roadside vendor on my way to school,” the third-grader named Sohana told police officials and reporters, describing how she was abducted over the weekend by two men and two burqa-clad women in Peshwar. The next day Taliban militants took her to a military checkpoint intending for her to walk up to it wearing a suicide bomb vest, then detonate it.
“Terrorists reveal their total lack of compassion for human life when they begin to use schoolchildren to carry out their plans of violence,” Salem said. “Thermal Matrix remains ready to deploy our suicide bomb detection technology, which is increasingly in need, wherever possible.
The Thermal Matrix ACT system has the ability to detect all forms of explosives hidden by suicide bombers, including those made from plastic, liquid, powder and gels. By utilizing advanced proprietary technology, ACT provides safe standoff detection, revealing concealed threats long before terrorists are able to get close to their intended victims.
With a set-up time of less than ten minutes, ACT can be used in multiple applications through a wide range of environments. The system is designed to be operated by one person, indoors or out. In addition, there are no privacy concerns, as ACT’s images are not x-rays.
