Steelers' Jon Dwyer Motivates Campers at Youth Football Camp at His Alma Mater, Kell High School in Marietta, GA
Georgia Tech Alum and Steelers' running back Jon Dwyer hosted three days of football fundamentals and fun at his youth football camp, June 16-18 in Marietta, GA.
Atlanta, GA, June 25, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Dwyer along with some of his NFL colleagues and current Georgia Tech players worked with 150 youth, ages 5-18 at his alma mater, Kell High School.
Campers learned NFL style drills and strength and conditioning training from players and coaches. The camp ended with a mentoring segment, where the players spoke about the importance of persistence, hard work and a positive attitude. Campers received breakfast, lunch, gift bags and players’ autographs.
Participating NFL players included: Rennie Curran (Titans), Morgan Burnett (Packers), Buster Skrine (Cleveland Browns), Cordaro Howard (Buffalo Bills) and Terance Mathis (Former Falcons).
Jon used the forum to highlight his struggle with ADD, and his journey to succeed on and off the field. The Georgia native persevered after his diagnosis, and with the help of his teachers, coaches, and technology achieved his goals.
“These kids see us on the field, but they rarely know our stories. I wanted to help them improve on the field, but I also wanted them to know that we’re just like them. I hope they left knowing that if they’re willing to work hard and go after their dreams, they can reach their goals.”
The camp benefited two worthy causes, the Kell High School Football Program and the Jonathan Dwyer Neuro Feedback Lab at Jacob's Ladder Center in Roswell, Georgia. Jacob's Ladder Center specializes in educating children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, Autism, PDD and Asperger's among others. The lab is one of only five in the country, and has proven to have significant long term effects on young patients with ADD/ADHD and Autism.
Donations can still be made to the Jon Dwyer Neuro Lab at http://www.jacobsladdercenter.com/jondwyerlab
The Jon Dwyer Youth Football Camp was sponsored in part by PowerAde Ion 4, BJs, Chick-Fil-A, Costco, Dentistry for Children, Fontis Water, Harry’s Farmer Market, Hibbett Sports, InHouse Productions, Kell’s Kitchen, Kroger, Merita, NFL Players Association, NFL, Orasi Software, Pepsi, Pro Sports, Russell Athletic, Sports Authority, Uncle Bud’s BBQ and Wise Chips.
