Breakaway Media and Bestselling Independent Authors from Both Sides of the Pond Unite to Bring Readers a New Kind of Book Club
Nine authors form The Summer Book Club to engage readers with social media and new ebook anthology of their works.
Tucson, AZ, July 01, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Nine bestselling independent, or “indie,” british and american authors who have self-published books for Amazon’s Kindle e-reading device have come together to form The Summer Book Club, launched on June 30, 2011. The Club runs for eight weeks and features discussion and Q & A sessions with the writers through its Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/summerbookclub. Each week the Club features a different book from one of the authors, from a range of genres to suit all tastes from thriller to romance to paranormal.
For readers who are new to the authors, The Summer Book Club comes with its own dedicated ebook titled the same, published on Amazon Kindle Digital Publishing on June 27, 2011 and priced at $0.99. The ebook features the opening chapter of all eight books and a short story or article from each of the participating writers.
The Summer Book Club is the brainchild of Mark Edwards, one half (with Louise Voss) of the writing team behind Catch Your Death, currently number one on the UK Kindle charts. They are the first fully independent authors to occupy that position. Edwards tapped into the social network of independent authors with Kindle Boards, Facebook, and other social media to engage and invite the authors to participate in The Summer Book Club.
The access readers get to these bestselling authors and the authors’ direct involvement in the conversations set The Summer Book Club apart from other reading clubs. The authors represent a new generation of writers embracing new technologies and social media to connect with readers directly. In addition to discussion, a series of blog posts by the authors running for the duration of the Club provide insights into their books and into the writing and self-publishing process.
The authors have each sold thousands of copies for Kindle since choosing to sidestep the traditional route and self-publish with Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing. Some have sold more than 100,000 copies of their novels, including Victorine Lieske, whose romantic suspense novel Not What She Seems hit the New York Times Bestsellers list through download sales and J. Carson Black, whose thriller Darkness on the Edge of Town reached the Top 10 on Amazon’s Kindle Bestsellers List in June.
All of the authors’ royalties from sales of The Summer Book Club ebook will be donated to the JPL Staff Relief Fund, a fund supporting members of staff at the Joplin Public library who were victims of the recent tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri.
The Summer Book Club ebook is published by Breakaway Media.
