Scholarship Guidelines for Villanova Prep Students Established

Ojai, CA, July 01, 2011 --(PR.com)-- In an effort to make a Villanova Preparatory School education more accessible to deserving high school students of varying means, the Development Office is asking alumni and friends to consider establishing a scholarship. The Scholarship Establishment Guidelines have recently been set up to allow potential donors a clear path to assisting more deserving students.

There are many reasons to establish a scholarship. Among them are:

to memorialize a loved one, to honor a colleague, friend, mentor or family member, or to give back to the Alma Mater.

Regardless of the reason, there are simple steps covered in the Villanova Scholarship Guidelines.

Interested donors should contact the Development Office to discuss their goals and to establish scholarship criteria. There are two types of scholarships that a donor may establish: an endowed named scholarship, or a fixed term named scholarship.

Once the criteria are set, the donor sends a letter of intent to establish the scholarship with funds made payable to VPS.

Villanova’s President and Director of Financial Affairs must approve the establishment of all scholarships.

An endowed named scholarship may be established in the name of the donor or in another name specified by the donor with a minimum initial gift of $20,000. The principal (corpus) of the endowment will be invested by Villanova’s Office of Financial Affairs and the annual interest will fund the scholarship. The corpus of the endowment may never be spent. The donor may make additional contributions to add to the corpus at any time.

Fixed Term Named Scholarships: This scholarship may be established with a minimum gift $5000, with the corpus of the gift used to fund the award. Named scholarship award minimum is $1000. The donor has the option at any time to increase the amount of the award or the number of years by contributing additional funds. When the fund balance falls below $1000, the donor will be notified and given the option to add to the fund or have the balance transferred to the Fr. Glynn Scholarship Endowment.
