Jervis B. Webb Company Awarded $15 Million Project at Los Angeles/Ontario International Airport
Farmington Hills, MI, March 23, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Jervis B. Webb Company — a world leader in material handling solutions — today announced a $15 million contract with Texas-based Austin Commercial to install baggage handling and in-line Explosive Detection Systems (EDS) in Terminal 2 and Terminal 4 at Los Angeles/Ontario International Airport (ONT). Both projects will be installed simultaneously, with completion scheduled for October of 2009.
“We look forward to working collaboratively with Austin Commercial and utilizing our extensive expertise in the areas of design, manufacturing and installation of in-line baggage screening conveyor systems,” said Kenneth Hamel, Webb’s Vice President of Webb Airport Systems. “The Webb Company has positioned itself as an industry leader for airports worldwide and will continue to play a significant role in developing new products that meet today’s security requirements.”
Under the terms of the contract, Webb will install an automated in-line EDS conveyor system, which will eliminate the need for baggage screening machines in the airport’s lobby. The upgraded baggage security system will be implemented in careful coordination with ongoing airline operations to minimize disruption. Once installed, the new system will allow Transportation Security Agency personnel to screen checked passenger baggage more efficiently than with the baggage handling systems currently in place, as well as reduce congestion in the ticketing area.
Webb’s baggage handling systems are currently in use at more than 50 U.S. and international airports.
LA/Ontario International Airport, which is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports, is located 35 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles.
