Rubi Assa’s Oil Paintings Explore What Lies Below the Surface
Rubi Assa is a contemporary artist who is influenced both by the calm environment of his youth, when he was surrounded by the greenery of the country, and by his later experiences, which were extremely varied.
New York, NY, July 08, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature Israeli artist, Rubi Assa, in Interpretive Realms. The exhibition is scheduled to run from July 26, 2011 through August 16, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, July 28, 2011).
About the Artist
In his oil on canvas paintings, Israeli artist Rubi Assa expresses and documents sensations, feelings and memories through selected images brought to life by his distinct use of line and color. Known for his bold colors and unique figural renderings, which feature markedly enhanced eyes and facial expressions, Assa explores the inherent duplicity of both images and the visual world, where surface appearance doesn’t always correlate to what lies within.
Assa’s paintings are simultaneously influenced by the green fields and bucolic surroundings of his childhood and the tension and anxiety created by decades of wars in Israel. What results are images seemingly naïve but which in fact reveal to the viewer a fierce emotionality. On the surface, the paintings are bright and colorful, but there is an intriguing undercurrent of darkness and depth that provides a point of connection for us all. As he explains, “Each artwork tells a different life story to its viewer.” Indeed, Assa offers us paintings that reverberate with viewers from all walks of life.
Exhibition Dates: July 26, 2011 – August 16, 2011

About the Exhibition:
The artists whose works make up A Maze of Milieu use their art as a primary means of communication with and about the world they experience. Interpretive Realms presents the power of artistic creativity and flexibility combined, with works that sweep the audience away through their passion and purpose. A delicate simplicity and a carefully poised perfection define the works in The Portal of Tranquility, an exhibition in which talented artists achieve a beguiling balance between what we know and what we would like to perceive.
