Deltona Realty General Sales Manager "Jailed" to Raise Funds for Muscular Dystrophy
St. Augustine, FL, July 08, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Deltona Realty’s General Sales Manager’s big heart got her in a lot of trouble recently. On June 16 Karen Palmer was attending a sales meeting in Deltona Realty’s office at The Shoppes of Mura Bella when she was arrested for having a big heart. Palmer posted bail by raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
The trip to jail (aka The Hilton) was part of this year’s MDA Lock Up, a community-wide event to raise funds for people with neuromuscular diseases. MDA is a nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The association also provides comprehensive healthcare and support services, advocacy and education.
So far Palmer has raised $1,500, which will support services for MDA’s Northeast Florida members. These include assistance with durable medical equipment, flu shots, clinics, research, and summer camp.
“While the promotion was a lot of fun, I’m hoping we can continue to raise funds,” Palmer said. “Once I started promoting that I was participating in the MDA Lock Up on Facebook, people really responded. In fact, one man who I had worked with for many years sent me a note that his son has Duchenne muscular dystrophy. He was so thankful for everything that MDA does. His message really drove home how important this organization is.”
