New York, NY, July 09, 2011 --(PR.com)-- On Sunday, July 10, 2011, New York Composer/Pianist Jed Distler, “an altogether extraordinary pianist” (Newark Star-Ledger) and New York's “Downtown keyboard magus" (The NewYorker), will be distinguished guest artist (piano) joining Savage Nightingale's soprano Darynn Zimmer, guitar virtuoso Eliot Fisk and distinguished guest artist, Rex Benincasa, percussion, for a performance of an exciting and timeless program of folk music from Spain, France the the Americas, based on Savage Nightingale's new recording (Labor Records) of the same title. The concert takes place at East Hampton's Guild Hall, located at 158 Main Street. Showtime is 6:30PM EST.
“Darynn Zimmer's juicy soprano adeptly communicates yearning, and she stops just short of overwhelming the music. She’s got plenty of fire for ‘El Café de Chinitas’ and a delicate touch in ‘The White Dawn is Stealing.’ Guitarist Eliot Fisk delivers some nimble fretwork, while Jed Distler is the sensitive pianist on the Cadman. Percussionist Rex Benincasa contributes snappy castanet-playing in ‘Anda Jaleo!’” (Opera News)
“With a silvery and expressive voice...Zimmer conveys the sweetness and nobility of these songs beautifully, and with exquisitely clear diction....The amazing Eliot Fisk can do pretty much whatever he wants on the guitar.” (Fanfare)
Jed Distler is making the rounds this summer, with a new CD, “Meditate with the Masters,” from Musical Concepts released January of this year. Over the 4th of July weekend, he was at Governor’s Island leading about 40 musicians for two performances of Terry Riley’s minimalist milestone “In C” to kick off the Rite of Summer Music Festival, a contemporary-classical concert series, curated by the pianists Pam Goldberg and Blair McMillen. “Facing the ensemble at a toy piano he plunked and patted sporadically, Mr. Distler raised a finger to summon conspiratorial hushes, and leapt, arms outspread, to urge climaxes. No two performances of ‘In C’ are alike, and this one stood out for its vibrant, variegated colors ...” (New York Times.)
