About Bartholomew Verdirame

Bartholomew Verdirame has more than 30 years of experience representing clients in all aspects of intellectual property law. He specializes in patent litigation in the areas of chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and engineering and has extensive experience in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in complex patent reexaminations and interferences. In addition to litigation, Bart counsels clients in licensing intellectual property and in IP issues relating to mergers, acquisitions and bankruptcy. Most recently, he assisted the United States Treasury on IP matters in the General Motors and Chrysler bankruptcies. Bart also counsels clients in preparing patent portfolios in diverse areas of technology, including alternative energy developments.

Bart was selected by the country’s six largest oil companies to guide them in a patent dispute involving reformulated gasoline that included trials in the district court, appeal to the Federal Circuit, reexaminations in the Patent and Trademark office and proceedings in the Federal Trade Commission involving government standards and patents.

Among the clients Bart has represented are Arco Chemical, ChevronTexaco, Shell Oil, ExxonMobil, Texaco Inc. and Hoffmann La Roche. Bart served as chair of the NYIPLA committee on Litigation Practice and Procedure.

Bart has lectured on topics such as Intellectual Property and Bankruptcy, the reimportation of pharmaceuticals, representing multiple parties in intellectual property litigation and in preparations for litigations under the Hatch Waxman Act. He is identified in The Legal 500 U.S. as one of ‘the best’ in Intellectual Property Patent Litigation.

Bart was a partner in the intellectual property law firm Morgan & Finnegan before joining Cadwalader.

Bart earned his J.D. degree from St. John’s School of Law, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from C.C.N.Y.
