Dotherightthing Ranks First Companies on their Social Performance

Companies ranked by users based on their impacts on people and the environment

San Francisco, CA, March 26, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Dotherightthing Inc., creators of the world’s first user-powered social performance rankings website, announced today that it plans to rank every company in the world by their "social performance," as measured by users. The first companies to undergo evaluation were Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT), Starbucks Corporation (Nasdaq: SBUX), and Whole Foods Market, Inc. (Nasdaq: WFMI), which have been evaluated by dotherightthing.com users and will be tracked in real time beginning Monday, March 26, 2007.

Consumers are now actively incorporating information about the social impacts of companies in their everyday purchasing decisions. Today, companies are forced to reveal the environmental and social impacts of their products in order to effectively compete in the market. Dotherightthing is centralizing this new form of information about companies, organizing it simply, through rankings and harnessing the power of the collaborative Internet, which has led websites like Wikipedia.org to previously unthinkable success. Dotherightthing also invites representatives of companies to participate in the process by sharing information about the activities of companies and participating in discussions with consumers. This site is already helping companies become more transparent and allowing consumers to easily find information about products that are impacting their world in positive (and negative) ways.

Dotherightthing.com has created an innovative model to measure the social and environmental impacts of companies. In this model, the community determines the criteria by which companies are evaluated, the weighting of those criteria, and the measurement of social and environmental impacts.

Companies are evaluated by the dotherightthing community in three stages. First, a company is submitted for evaluation by an interested user and its first "stories," describing its activities with social and/or environmental impacts, are posted. Second, once the community has shown significant interest in the company's activities, it is selected for evaluation, during which the community has a limited time to evaluate its social performance. Third, at the end of the evaluation period, the company's "social performance" score is revealed to the world and tracked in real time, as additional information is contributed about the company.

“Dotherightthing.com allows us to shape the future of companies,” said Mithun Sundar, an MBA student at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and dotherightthing.com user. “I’m really excited to see CEOs and executives participating on the site. The site’s ability to facilitate two-way discussions is what makes it really special.”

“We created dotherightthing.com to recognize companies that are already doing great things for society,” said Ryan Mickle, co-founder of dotherightthing.com. “Companies are already competing for consumers’ business on these new aspects of business performance, and we’re dedicated to helping the world reveal the companies that are striving to create both financial and social value.”
