BJAC Provides Design Consulting to Shaw University
Local Architectural Firm Advises Historically Black University that was Ravaged by April Tornadoes.
Raleigh, NC, July 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Dan Fields, AIA, principal and CMO at BJAC, pa (http://www.bjac.com), an architectural firm offering professional services for specialized, complex institutional projects, has announced that BJAC is providing design consulting services to Shaw University in Raleigh. Shaw University’s campus was heavily damaged by an April 2011 tornado, so BJAC assembled a team of local design and construction firms to provide a pro-bono assessment and preliminary estimates of storm damage.
BJAC, along with a team of local design and construction firms including Stewart, Callis Contracting and Barnhill Construction, reviewed the university’s buildings and prepared a report that recorded damage and recommended repair steps. Specific follow-up activities include: selection of new finish materials; evaluation of systems repair and replacement; preparation of an advance planning study of improvements to the Student Center; preparation of conceptual design studies and project visualization; and design and construction observation for a temporary food service and dining facility.
Quotes:
“BJAC is always willing to help out a fellow member of the Raleigh community,” said Fields. “The devastation that the tornado was able do to the campus is unbelievable, and BJAC is glad to have the opportunity to lend our expertise to a friend in need. With our damage assessments, repair recommendations and cost estimates, Shaw University will have a good foundation to begin its renovations, and we look forward to helping them restore their great university.”
Details:
- The report that will be created regarding improvements to the Student Center included identification of long-term programming goals, assessment of code compliance and expansion capability of the existing building, and recommendations for a prioritized project scope.
