Baltimore, MD, July 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Maryland Machine has announced that they have been selected by Ziger/Snead Architecture to complete reverse engineering work on a steel artifact from the Twin Towers, which will act as the centerpiece for a memorial to commemorate those from the state of Maryland who lost their lives lost on 9/11.
As part of this complex project, the machining specialists at the company used modeling clay to mold the three points of the artifact at which mounts will be situated in order to hold it securely in place. For complete accuracy, the team at Maryland Machine then utilized a state of the art Brown and Sharp CMM (Coordinated Measuring Machine) in order to plot the unique curvature of the artifact ready for input into their in-house Cad/ Cam design systems.
To ensure that all three mounts would be fitted seamlessly to the artifact, the next stage in the process involved using PVC plastic mock-ups to assess the design’s validity from an engineering perspective.
The final product is constructed from durable Grade 304 stainless steel and will be bolted into a concrete base. Once it is bolted, the Twin Towers artifact will be placed on top of three mounts and welded securely in place to act as an everlasting monument to honor those from the state who tragically perished on September 11, 2001.
The entire project is due for completion before September 11, 2011, the 10th anniversary of that momentous day in American history.
