Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos.com, talks about the importance of corporate culture to business success on the CEO TV Show in an interview with host Robert Reiss.
Ridgefield, CT, July 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos.com, in an interview with Robert Reiss on The CEO TV Show (www.ceoshow.tv) talks about the importance of corporate culture to success in business. Hsieh learned the lesson the hard way: In his first company he paid no attention to the issue of corporate culture, and suddenly found he didn't want to wake up and go to his company in the morning -- so he sold it for $265 million.
When Hsieh became CEO of Zappos.com, he knew he couldn't be successful unless corporate culture was at the very heart of the business. He explained: "I realized that if I spent most of my waking life working with people with the same values as I have, then we would be successful”: and to ensure that he started out to personally interview each employee.
Soon, after 100 interviews, he recognized that the process had to be systematized. In the first interview the aim was to ensure the candidate had the requisite background and could add value to the company; and in the second interview, to determine whether there was a culture fit. If the candidate didn’t pass the second interview they didn't get hired, irrespective of how well they could have added to the top and/or bottom line.
That isn't all Zappos did to ensure corporate culture drove the business. To see more, go to www.ceoshow.tv. While you listen to him explain what they do, note that Zappos was recently sold to Amazon.com for over $1 billion.
