Hillmuth Brothers Voted Automotive Repair Industry’s “Humanitarians of the Year”
Columbia, MD, July 18, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Hillmuth Certified Automotive’s founders, Doug and Billy Hillmuth, have been voted Humanitarians of the Year by their peers in the automotive repair industry. The designation is one of the top awards from the Automotive Training Institute (ATI), an industry trade and development association representing more than 1,000 repair shops throughout North America.
Hillmuth Certified Automotive, founded in 1978, operates four repair shops in Howard and Montgomery counties: Columbia, Clarksville, Glenwood and Gaithersburg. The award was presented at ATI’s recent Super Conference in San Diego.
“Doug and Billy are awesome guys who go way above and beyond giving back to their industry and to their community,” says Bryan Stasch, ATI director of client fulfillment. “This award is all about successful people with passion and commitment for giving to others, and the Hillmuths are perfect examples.”
Nominations for the Humanitarian of the Year Award are solicited from ATI members, says Stasch. The top four nominees are presented to the 500+ Super Conference attendees who cast their ballots for the winner.
“The Hillmuths really raised the bar at this year’s Super Conference,” Stasch says. “Their Clarksville shop was named Top Repair Shop in the nation, their Columbia shop was in the Top Twelve, and Doug and Billy won the Humanitarians of the Year Award. They’re long-time advocates for professionalism in the auto repair industry. They’ve come up with creative approaches to auto service, like the TLC program for total lifetime care. That’s a list of accomplishments that other shops can work toward.”
Hillmuth Certified Automotive represents success and stability, says Stasch. Their four facilities service more than 1,200 cars each month, and the staff at each shop has the collective experience of more than 100 years. Most staff members have been with the company for longer than 15 years, and 90 percent are master technicians.
Doug Hillmuth says the recognition of their efforts is appreciated, especially because it comes from their industry colleagues. “We’ve been fortunate to build a thriving business that allows us to support our industry and contribute to our community.”
Hillmuth Certified Automotive runs an in-house apprenticeship program to train its younger workers in the profession, and the firm has played an integral role in developing the Pre-Automotive Academy, an eight-week program that introduces Howard County middle school students to the industry. The company also supports many school-based programs, including the Montgomery County Student Automotive Trades Program. the Automotive Youth Educational System Mentor Program, the Howard County Schools Career Connection Mentor Program, and its representatives have served as advisors to the Carroll County Career and Technology Center, the Community College of Baltimore School of Technology and the Howard County Schools Career and Technology Education Center. In conjunction with National Car Care Month, Hillmuth Certified Automotive offers annual maintenance checks for AAA members in Maryland.
Billy Hillmuth is past president of the Washington, Maryland, Delaware Service Station and Automotive Repair Association (WMDA), representing the industry on Capitol Hill and throughout the region, and served on the Maryland State Vehicle Inspection Advisory Committee. He also is a member of the Baltimore Automotive Parts Distributors Dealers Council.
For the past decade, Doug Hillmuth has participated in an annual mission project in Mexico building homes for those in poverty. He served as chair and general contractor for the 1997 construction of the New Hope Presbyterian Church in Derwood and is a team leader and sponsor for projects coordinated by Rebuilding Together in Montgomery and Howard counties. The Nails Mission Project in Cumberland, which builds homes for local families in need, also has benefitted from Doug’s participation.
The company also supports Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Better Bed Rest Outreach Program, helping women with at-risk pregnancies, Montgomery and Howard County Hospices, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Communities Ministries of Montgomery County and many other schools and non-profit organizations.
