University of Minnesota Set to Host U2 Concert on FieldTurf

School officials at ease knowing FieldTurf will be more than supportive for band’s equipment

Minneapolis, MN, July 24, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Add Bono to the list of stars who can claim they’ve performed their talents on FieldTurf. The University of Minnesota is proud to host the acclaimed Irish rock band to TCF Bank Stadium this coming weekend, with the stage and equipment all being set up on the school’s FieldTurf field. Fans will get a chance to rock out as the venue branches away from football, demonstrating the multi-functional ability FieldTurf provides.

U2’s current 360 tour across North America has the band making pit stops throughout numerous sports venues, raising concerns about the effect the set ups will have on the fields. The equipment weight is estimated to be about 600 tons, with over 200 workers involved with the set up. No question this amount of usage is considered “heavy duty,” and associate athletics director Scott Ellison is extremely confident the stadium’s FieldTurf will ensure the venue remains intact for the upcoming season.

“When we built the stadium, football was the primary function but we always talked about doing other events.” said Scott Ellison. “Through our load testing we verified that the field could take the load that we're seeing on the field right now.”

Fields with natural grass or competing turf systems don’t have the unique heavyweight infill blend of cryogenic rubber and silica sand that FieldTurf offers. Whether hosting 300lb lineman or superstar concerts, FieldTurf is built to withstand whatever is thrown its way. Surely this show marks a beautiful day for FieldTurf; rock on Minneapolis!
