Suicide Prevention Organization Releases Music CD Tribute to Help Spread Awareness
Pick With Austin, Inc., has released a music CD "My Gift of Music" to help promote their mission to spread more awareness about the epidemic of youth and teen depression and suicide. The CD contains songs licensed for use in the project from composers, singers, and bands from around the world.
Austin, TX, July 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- "My Gift of Music" continues Pick With Austin's quest to promote awareness of the dangers of youth and teen depression and suicide. Pick With Austin, Inc., was formed in Central Texas (USA) earlier this year after the tragic death of Alan Carter Villaruz-Curley. Eighteen year old Alan, a musician, lost his battle with depression in October of 2010.
Professionally mastered and packaged for release, the CD is available online at tribute.pickwithaustin.com, as well as at various events where Pick With Austin is present and spreading the word about their cause. The music, which is includes a variety of musical types and venues, was selected specifically due to each song's value at it related to this project. Singers and bands include: Suddyn, Herr Nilsson, Rhythm of Mars, John Kuhns, L. Perry, Morgen La Civita, Don Scribner, Matt Graunke, Tom Daniels - Night by Night, Risen From Chaos, Fred Rohan-Vargas, Lorraine Jordan, Morrigan's Cross, Lisa Holmstrom, and Esmeralda Flores.
According to the American Foundation For Suiside Prevention (AFSP), suicide is the third leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 15 to 24. Even more disturbing, as per AFSP, is the fact that suicide is the fourth leading cause of death for children between the ages of 10 and 14. Pick With Austin, through distribution of this music and through other programs designed to build awareness and prevention, hope to contribute to the reduction of this epidemic. "If only one individual is saved," states Jeff Curley, the founder of the organization and Alan's father, "Then Alan's memory is honored."
Music is an important part of most young peoples’ lives so the partnership will harness the beauty and therapeutic properties of music to educate and reach out to at-risk children and teens. To this end, Pick With Austin, Inc. has a number of programs in place to deliver the message and distribute musical instruments to children and teens who are disadvantaged, who live in lower socioeconomic areas or have significant health problems and impairments.
