APRL GA Protesting Buckhead Restaurant for Serving Foie Gras

Atlanta, GA, July 30, 2011 --(PR.com)-- APRL GA announces that this Saturday, July 30rd from 7p to 9p, approximately 15 protesters will gather outside Bistro Niko, located at 3344 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA, to protest foie gras—a controversial liver appetizer made by force feeding ducks.

The activists are calling for a halt in the sale of foie gras due to animal cruelty, environmental pollution, food waste and immigrant exploitation within the farms that produce foie gras.

There have been 5 previous protests at Restaurant Eugene, each with approximately 10 to 30 protesters, and with police coming out each time.

Activists stood along Peachtree Street holding signs and banners depicting foie gras production and suffering animals, and posters reading “Stop Selling Cruel Foie Gras,” “Shame on Bistro Niko,” and “84 Lbs Grain = 1 Lb Foie Gras.”

Activists met with management of Bistro Niko in May of 2011 and presented management with over 300 pages of documentation proving the cruelty and waste involved in producing foie gras and an undercover DVD of foie gras production.

The campaign against foie gras in Atlanta began in February of 2011. 14 restaurants- including Bistro Niko- were contacted and asked to reconsider serving foie gras. The restaurants were mailed an information packet which included a 5 minute undercover DVD showing how foie gras is produced.

The protest is being organized by the Animal Protection & Rescue League (APRL), a grassroots nonprofit based in San Diego, which garnered support for a California law to ban the production and sale of foie gras that takes effect next year. Photos and video from foie gras farms are available at foiegrascruelty.org and stopforcefeeding.org, and broadcast quality video of APRL’s animal cruelty investigations is available on request.
