South Nassau Communities Hospital Names Leading Cardiologist Associate Director of Interventional Cardiology

Oceanside, NY, July 30, 2011 --(PR.com)-- South Nassau Communities Hospital has appointed Asif M. Rehman, MD, FACP, FACC, FSCAI, associate director of interventional cardiology. Dr. Rehman’s cardiology career is highlighted by his co-leadership of clinical studies focused on the treatment of heart disease, as well as research that has been published in leading medical journals, including the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Board-certified in cardiovascular diseases and internal medicine, Dr. Rehman has been an attending cardiologist at South Nassau since 2002. He has also served as an attending cardiologist with a number of other premiere Long Island-based. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention. He also serves as chairman of the Long Island Heart Council’s research committee.

South Nassau has been in the vanguard of interventional cardiology. On Monday, October 16, 2006, South Nassau performed an elective coronary angioplasty, marking the first time in the history of Nassau County that a hospital without an open-heart surgery program successfully completed the procedure in a non-emergency. Until then, elective (or non-emergency)
coronary angioplasty was provided only at hospitals with full cardiac surgical programs. Since that time, South Nassau has safely performed more than 2,000 of these procedures.

The cornerstone of South Nassau’s cardiology services is its Center for Cardiovascular Health. The 21,000 square-foot Center includes two state-of-the-art digital cardiac catheterization rooms with 18 dedicated preparation/recovery spaces. It is equipped with the latest advancements interventional cardiology to perform a wide range of coronary and peripheral procedures, including balloon angioplasty, stenting, implantation and testing of pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators and thrombolytic therapy.
