3-GIS Announces Contract with MCNC for Deployment of Express Solution

3-GIS, an Alabama-based GIS software development company, has announced that MCNC has signed a contract to deploy 3-GIS’ Express Solution, a Web-based GIS management solution.

Decatur, AL, August 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- 3-GIS was chosen by North Carolina non-profit MCNC from among 11 participants in a competitive RFP process. MCNC is currently working on a $144 million expansion of the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN) scheduled to be completed by 2013. This initiative has been labeled the Golden LEAF Rural Broadband Initiative.

3-GIS’ Express Solution leverages Esri’s ArcGIS Server to seamlessly flow network data between an office administrator utilizing Network Express and field technicians with the mobile Field Express. These highly efficient tools will enable MCNC to address their existing fiber network while adding thousands of miles of new fiber assets to the database.

Express Solution will provide a full view of the MCNC network, which has the potential to serve directly, or through MCNC partnerships with private-sector service providers, more than 1,500 community anchor institutions, 180,000 businesses, and more than 300,000 underserved families once the NCREN expansion is complete.

The administrators using Network Express will have the capability to edit, query, report, trace, analyze and plot data from the geodatabase. The efficiency of this Web-based application allows the administrator to communicate data updates and work orders with field technicians using the mobile application Field Express. The field technician will have the ability to capture, edit, and send data back to the office in real time. Leveraging the capabilities of 3-GIS’ Express Solution will allow administrators at MCNC the ability to make more informed networking decisions while increasing productivity across departments.

“Over the next two years MCNC is planning to build or acquire as much as 2,000 miles of fiber-optic cable,” said Dustin Sutton, executive solutions consultant for 3-GIS. “They needed a system that could be easily integrated with their existing network assignment system and could quickly streamline inspection management between network and field technicians during the build.”
