Indie Filmmaker Launches Contest for Film Composers
A nationwide search will give a composer the opportunity to score a feature film. The winner will receive $500 and a $3000 contract to create music for the feature film "The Storm Within."
Chicago, IL, August 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- www.thestormwithinllc.com - Chicago Screenwriter and Producer Vera Brooks has begun a nationwide search to find a composer to score her first feature film, “The Storm Within.” Brooks optioned her full-length feature “Inspector 19” with GMC Network after becoming a finalist in the American Black Film Festival in June 2011. She’s the writer and producer of two short films, one having received honorable mention in the Chris Wetzel Comedy Film Competition, and the producer of a recent music video for Chicago-area rapper B-Class. Brooks also has experience producing over 30 staged readings as the co-founder and Executive Director of Chicago ScriptWorks, a non-for-profit organization dedicated to producing original screenplays for a live audience.
From August 4 - September 20, 2011, composers will submit an original piece of music created specifically for the competition. Brooks and Zernul Shackelford, an accomplished musician and composer who scored the music for the collegiate quiz show, “Know Your Heritage,” will review the music and narrow the field to five finalists. The Top Five Finalists will be announced on September 30, 2011. From October 1 to October 25, music fans can listen to the five compositions and vote online. The winner will receive a $500 prize, and a $3,000 contract with The Storm Within LLC to score the film.
"I realize how important music is in setting the tone for a film, and I think this competition will provide someone with the opportunity they’ve been striving for," said Brooks. "I am extremely excited to have a composer take a role in this creative endeavor with me," says Brooks.
“The Storm Within” tells the story of Lorraine Peterson, whose quiet home is turned upside down when seven guests are stuck at her home for the four days. Lorraine has no choice--she must face those she shuts out of her life and her biggest fears.
The winner will be announced on Saturday, October 29, 2011.
