Kids Wish Network On Tour Brings “Miles of Smiles” of Toys to Yazoo City
Yazoo City, MS, August 10, 2011 --(PR.com)-- National children’s charity, Kids Wish Network recently joined forces with Yazoo City Mayor McArthur Straughter along with other city and county officials to bring joy to local children in need through Kids Wish Network On Tour, a ground-breaking program designed especially to help children nationwide who are facing difficult circumstances.
With help from Megatrux, Inc., Kids Wish Network On Tour sent a semi-truck loaded with all sorts of toys, clothes, educational products, games, strollers, baby carriers and other much-needed items directly into the heart of Yazoo City for distribution to these deserving children many of whom lost their homes due to recent flooding and tornadoes that devastated Yazoo City.
Volunteers from all around Yazoo City helped set up and arrange the exciting event at the McCoy Elementary School gymnasium. They worked hand in hand with the city officials, police officers, firefighters and Kids Wish staff to help make the day a special one for the children.
“This is the first time that we’ve had anything of this magnitude here in Yazoo City,” said Yazoo City Mayor McArthur Straughter. “It was truly a special day for our children to be a part of this awesome event. Watching our community come together to help deliver the toys and necessities and seeing our firemen and policemen do something special for our children …that was so rewarding; there were only smiles everywhere!”
The children were overjoyed as they were entertained by Star Wars characters while being handed bags of toys and gifts by uniformed police officers. Every child left the gymnasium with a smile on their face and their arms loaded with toys.
According to Kids Wish Network’s founder, Shelley Breiner, it was a “wonderful feeling seeing the miles of smiles on the faces of deserving children as they received toys, clothes and gifts. In the end, their little hands were so full they could not hold all that they would take home. It was such a wonderful feeling to see the police officers and city officials waiting to assist the families to their cars with all those goodies, not to mention all of the hugs of thanks and gratitude from the children and families.”
“Our Kids Wish Network On Tour event in Yazoo City was amazing,” said Anna Lanzatella, Executive Director for Kids Wish Network. “We are delighted to be able to help the children of Mississippi. Just seeing the smiles on their faces and witnessing the appreciation of their parents made the whole trip and the months of planning worthwhile. It was a pleasure to work with Mayor Straughter and his staff, and we are grateful to the police officers, firefighters and all the volunteers and sponsors who generously gave their time and supported our efforts.”
