Scenic Hotel Group Supports the Top Brass in NZ
Scenic Hotel Group announces the 2011 winners of the Scenic Hotels Band of the Year following the contest at the New Zealand National Brass Band Championships in Auckland.
Christchurch, New Zealand, August 13, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The New Zealand National Brass Band Championships held in late July in Auckland attracted the country's best brass soloists and bands with impressive performances from newcomers and established musicians alike.
Competing for this year's "Scenic Hotels Band of the Year" in a performance on 24th July in North Shore's Bruce Mason Centre were three of New Zealand's top brass bands : North Shore Brass, Dalewool Auckland Brass and Pelorus. (Special guests included the National Youth Brass Band). Following a hotly fought contest, the Scenic Hotel Group is proud to announce the 2011 winner as Dalewool Auckland Brass led by Howard Taylor.
To win the accolade of Scenic Hotel Band of the Year, Dalewool Auckland Brass demonstrated mastery of a wide range of music styles. Regarded as one of New Zealand's most successful brass bands, winning 8 Championship titles in New Zealand and Australia over the past 10 years, they are worthy winners of Scenic Hotels Band of the Year for 2011. Definitely the band to beat at the next Championships.
Meanwhile, taking the title for best soloist in the Band of the Year category was Byron Newton, a highly skilled euphonium player, who plays with Pelorus Trust Wellington Brass.
Once more the championships attracted a large number of entrants and loyal, passionate support. According to Owen Melhuish, Chairman of the Festival of Brass, Auckland, (home to the Scenic Hotel Auckland) is also “passionate about events and the 2011 New Zealand National Brass Band Championships is the first truly international event to be hosted by the ‘Supercity’...”
The Scenic Hotel Group is committed to supporting the arts community in New Zealand and was proud to be the naming rights sponsor of New Zealand Brass Band of the Year.
