"Sixty Slices of Life... On Wry" Gets Pinnacle Award for Memoir
Weaverville, NC, August 18, 2011 --(PR.com)-- "Sixty Slices of Life... on Wry: The Private Life of a Public Broadcaster," a tongue-in-cheek memoir by Fred Flaxman, has just received a 2011 Pinnacle Book Achievement Award in the memoir category.
These awards have been given for more than 21 years by the North American Bookdealers Exchange (NABE) to honor some of the finest independently-published books in a wide variety of different fields, including children's interest, fiction, novel, memoir, self-help, health, how-to, inspirational, and more.
"Sixty Slices of Life... on Wry: The Private Life of a Public Broadcaster" is a tongue-in-cheek memoir, proceeding chronologically from what the author learned about life from his dog when he was eight, to when he learned that he was an old man in the Paris Metro at age sixty-eight. In between the reader experiences his humorous, behind-the-scenes adventures in public radio, television, and journalism, where he once won a very serious national award for his chuckle-filled newspaper columns.
Some of these "slices" were previously published in the Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle and other major metropolitan newspapers. Others were written especially for this book.
Flaxman is the creator, writer, producer, editor, and host of "Compact Discoveries," a classical music public radio series distributed throughout the country by PRX, the Public Radio Exchange. During his career he has served as vice president of five public television and radio stations, including WTTW/Chicago and WETA/Washington, where he was the founding manager of WETA-FM. He was vice president for national program development for both WETA-TV and WTTW.
Flaxman's book has drawn nothing but rave reviews. They are collected at the book's website: sixtyslices.com.
Fred Flaxman is available for interviews and "slices" from the book read by its author are available as mp3 files. Contact him at 828-645-8580.
