Greenloons will contribute time and expertise to help raise sustainable tourism certification standards and increase consumer access to certified ecotourism suppliers worldwide.
Vienna, VA, August 21, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Both Organizations Committed to Educating Travelers on Sustainable Tourism
Irene Lane, founder of Greenloons, http://www.greenloons.com/ announced that her organization that showcases certified international sustainable travel opportunities for families has joined the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
The GSTC is an international initiative dedicated to promoting sustainable tourism practices around the world. It was founded in partnership by the World Tourism Organization, the United Nations Environment Programme, UN Foundation, Rainforest Alliance, Sabre/Travelocity and others. GSTC membership is open to all travel and tourism companies, organizations or individuals interested in sustainable travel.
Lane will contribute time and expertise to both the international standards and market access groups working to help raise certification standards and increasing consumer access to certified ecotourism suppliers worldwide.
As a member, Greenloons will commit to promoting the GSTC to its customers, vendors and peers. Sustainability principles refer to the environmental, economic and socio-cultural aspects of tourism development. A suitable balance must be established between these three dimensions to guarantee lasting sustainability.
Information about membership can be found at www.gstcouncil.org.
Greenloons (http://www.greenloons.com/) guides families to travel experiences managed by certified third-party suppliers engaged in eco- and sustainable tourism. Lane founded Greenloons in 2010 for the global community of nature enthusiasts and wildlife conservationists interested in accessing detailed and reliable information about responsible, sustainable and certified ecotourism travel vacations both in the US and abroad.
According to Lane, Ecotourism is one of the fastest growing sectors of the tourism industry and over the past ten years has become a billion-dollar-a-year market. The green travel segment is estimated to be growing 5 percent annually worldwide, representing 6 percent of the world’s gross domestic product and reflecting 11.4 percent of all consumer vacation spending.
