Express Logic Extends NetX™ TCP/IP Stack to Support IPv6
IPv6 enables NetX to address expanding embedded networking applications
San Jose, CA, April 04, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Express Logic, Inc., the worldwide leader in royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOS), today announced that its NetX™ TCP/IP stack has been extended to add support for next-generation Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6). IPv6 is the "next generation" protocol designed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to replace the current version Internet Protocol, IP Version 4 (IPv4). IPv6 offers developers many improvements in addressing, routing, security, and autoconfiguration of the network—improvements essential for the large number of wireless networking and cell phone customers using ThreadX RTOS technology.
IPv6 corrects many problems developing as more individuals and devices gained Internet connectivity. Perhaps most important among these improvements is the switch from a maximum address field size of 32 bits in IPv4 to a 64-bit address field that ensures that IPv6 can provide 3.4×1038 unique addresses—a range which allocates billions of Internet addresses to every person on earth! IPv6 also adds many improvements to IPv4 in areas such as routing, link-layer security, and network autoconfiguration. ThreadX developers of 3G cell phones will have access to capabilities such as IMS (Internet Multimedia System) technology, which is only available through IPv6.
NetX is Express Logic’s small, fast TCP/IP stack that enables ThreadX RTOS users to add networking capability to their embedded devices. Like ThreadX, NetX is designed from the ground up for embedded applications, and occupies a scant 12KB – 40KB of ROM space in embedded targets. NetX is provided in full source code form, enabling user extension, and easy integration with in-house RTOSes as well. IPv6 will enable NetX to continue to serve the needs of networked system developers well into the future, assisting in the proliferation of the interconnected electrtonic world.
“Our customers are now asking for IPv6 support, and we expect this to become a demand this year,” commented William E. Lamie, president of Express Logic. “By introducing IPv6 support in NetX, we’re getting a jump on the demand, and we’ll be able to help our customers face the challenges of their growing networks.”
Shipping and Availability
NetX with IPv6 support will be available this Fall, with royalty-free licenses starting at $12,500.
